EMS 3.1.4

Example Isolation Storage Areas:
U-Shaped Concrete Block Barrier
• Description: Arrange concrete blocks in a U-shape around the vehicle, leaving one side open
for easy access. This layout provides sufficient containment for any thermal event, directing
any heat or potential flames away from critical areas.
NEXT • Additional Features: Add fire-resistant barriers on the interior walls to improve fire containment
and possibly drainage grates at the base to allow for safe runoff.
Example Isolation Storage Areas:
Corner Barriers with Drainage and Spacing
• Description: Position large concrete blocks at each corner around the vehicle, creating an open-air
structure that still contains possible thermal runaway. This allows for good ventilation and drainage
while maintaining a safe buffer zone.
NEXT • Additional Features: Space the blocks approximately 4-6 feet apart and use heat-resistant
signage to indicate the isolation bay area.
Example Isolation Storage Areas:
Concrete Wall Barrier with Sloped Drainage Floor
• Description: Surround the vehicle on three sides with concrete barriers and place it on a sloped
concrete slab with a central drainage system. This would contain thermal activity on three sides
and manage liquids or runoff.
• Additional Features: Install metal grates along the sloped areas, leading to a drainage reservoir
to handle any leaking battery fluids or fire suppression water.
