EMS 1.11.1

Key practices for environmental protection and cleanup may include:

Assess and Document Environmental Risks:
• Evaluate the scene for potential contamination, such as leaked battery electrolyte, damaged high-voltage components, or other hazardous materials.
• Record clean-up activities to ensure compliance with regulations and for transparency in post-incident reporting.
Safe Handling of Hazardous Materials:
• Follow the guidelines in SAE J2990 for collecting damaged battery components:
• Use non-conductive, absorbent materials (e.g., sand) to cushion and contain damaged parts for safe transport and disposal.
• Handle leaked materials in accordance with the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to minimize environmental impact.
Proper Disposal and Waste Management:
• Adhere to local, provincial, and federal regulations for the disposal of hazardous materials.
• Use approved facilities for the transport and storage of waste, ensuring that materials like battery components, leaked fluids, and contaminated absorbents are handled appropriately.
