EMS 2.5
Transporting a damaged EV on a BC Ferry (or any marine transport) presents unique challenges and risks. Currently, BC Ferries does not have a formal written policy regarding the transport of accident-damaged EVs or EVs in general. Transporters and tow operators, therefore, must proactively assess risks and take mitigation measures to ensure safety. Documented cases indicate that transporters may be required to provide a signed declaration confirming the vehicle has been inspected by a qualified mechanic and that the State of Charge (SoC) is below 25% at the time of boarding. Final approval for boarding rests with the vessel’s captain, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation to reduce liability risks.
