Conducting a Risk Assessment

A thorough risk assessment helps facilities identify and address potential hazards associated with damaged EVs. This process ensures that safety measures are in place to protect employees and the environment while minimizing the risk of incidents such as fires, leaks, or electrical hazards. Conducting a risk assessment also helps facilities stay prepared for the increasing number of EVs requiring safe handling and storage.

When conducting an internal facility assessment, consider the following questions:

What are the designated storage areas for damaged EVs, and how are they isolated from other operations?

Is the facility equipped to manage hazardous materials, including proper disposal and containment systems?

Have all employees been trained in EV-specific hazards and emergency response procedures?

Does the layout of the facility minimize risks in the event of a thermal runaway or battery fire?

Are monitoring and inspection systems in place to detect potential issues early?
