ESVE Safety Considerations

EVSE stands for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment. It refers to the hardware and components used to deliver electricity from an external power source to charge an EV. EVSE typically includes charging stations (often called EV chargers), cables, connectors, and related infrastructure designed to safely provide power to recharge EV batteries.

There may be situations where you need to recover or load an EV while it is still connected to a charging station. This could occur during emergencies, such as fires or floods, or when you are required to impound or remove the vehicle for other reasons. In some cases, the charging cable may become locked, preventing you from unplugging it from the charger or the vehicle. This lesson provides guidelines to safely address this issue. The final topic in this section describes steps for unlocking a charging cable.
